Harry R. Pratter (b.1917; d. 2002) served as Acting Dean of the Indiana University School of Law in 1976-1977. Born in Kiev, Ukraine, in 1917, Harry Predarkov immigrated to the United States in 1925 with his family and became Harry Pratter. The family settled in Buffalo, New York, where he attended public school and then received a bachelor’s degree (1938) from the University of Buffalo. After serving in World War II, he taught English at the University of Buffalo, before enrolling at the University of Chicago Law School. Pratter received his J.D. from Chicago in 1949. In 1950 he joined the faculty of Indiana University School of Law, where he would remain until his retirement in 1984. Although retired, Pratter continued teaching until 1994.
